Born in Incheon in 1987. She moved with her family to Portland, Oregon, USA, when she was nine years old, and studied art history at Princeton University. He is the founder and editor of Peaceful Dumplings, an online magazine covering eco-friendly living and ecological literature. He began his literary career in 2016 by publishing the short story “Body Language” in the British literary magazine Granta, and has contributed novels, essays, and criticism to various newspapers and magazines, including “Slice” and “The Independent.” Her short story “Biodome,” set in future Korea, is being produced as a TV series. The late novelist Choi In-ho’s short story “The Biggest House on Earth” was translated into English.
His debut full-length novel, Beasts of a Small Land, which unfolds the history of a small land called Korea on a grand scale, is a masterpiece written over six years. Growing up listening to my mother's story about my grandfather who helped lead the independence movement from a young age, I naturally recognized Korean history as a part of our lives. By preserving this family history, I was able to inform readers around the world about Korean history while at the same time protecting myself from natural destruction, war, and other issues. I wrote a novel that suggests how we should live meaningfully in the face of famine. The prologue of this book, which begins with the hunter's story, was already completed in 2016. When I quit my job at a publishing company and lived in a cheap rented house in Manhattan and wrote only with the money I had saved, while I was running through the park on a snowy day, the image of a hunter on the snowy landscape came to mind, and as soon as I got home, I sat down at my desk. I wrote a novel in one go. Finally, in 2021, 『Beasts of the Small Land』 was praised as a “Tolstoy-style work” and was immediately listed as Amazon’s ‘Book of the Month’, and was featured in Real Simple, Harper’s Bazaar, Miss Magazine, and Portland Monthly. It was selected as the ‘Best Book of 2021’. In addition, it was introduced as a recommended book in over 40 media outlets across the country, including The Times. Afterwards, the copyright was sold to more than 10 countries, and in September 2022, it was selected as a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, which is awarded to literary works that contribute to world peace.

한국이라는 작은 땅의 역사를 장대한 스케일로 펼쳐낸 장편소설 데뷔작 『작은 땅의 야수들』은 6년에 걸쳐 집필한 대작이다. 독립운동을 도왔던 외할아버지의 이야기를 어릴 적부터 어머니에게 듣고 자라면서 한국의 역사를 우리 삶의 한 부분으로 자연스럽게 인식했고, 이러한 가족 내력을 간직한 채 한국의 역사를 전 세계 독자에게 알리는 동시에 자연 파괴, 전쟁, 기아를 맞이한 지금 우리가 어떻게 의미 있게 살아야 하는지 제시하는 소설을 썼다. 사냥꾼의 이야기로 시작되는 이 책의 프롤로그는 2016년에 이미 완성되었다. 다니던 출판사를 그만두고 맨해튼의 값싼 월셋집에 살면서 저축했던 돈으로만 생계를 이어가며 글을 쓰던 시절, 함박눈이 내리던 날 공원을 달리던 중 설경 위로 어느 사냥꾼의 모습이 머릿속에 떠올라 집에 가자마자 책상 앞에 앉아 단번에 소설을 써내려갔다. 2021년 마침내 『작은 땅의 야수들』은 “톨스토이 스타일의 작품”이라는 찬사를 받으며 출간 즉시 아마존 ‘이달의 책’에 올랐고, 《리얼 심플》 《하퍼스 바자》 《미스 매거진》 《포틀랜드 먼슬리》에서 ‘2021년 최고의 책’으로 선정되었다. 또한 《더 타임스》를 비롯해 전미 40여 개 매체에서 추천 도서로 소개되었다. 이후 10여 개가 넘는 나라에 판권이 팔렸고, 2022년 9월 세계 평화에 기여하는 문학 작품에 수여하는 ‘데이턴문학평화상’ 최종 후보에 올랐다.
